Broadband

We finally have cable modems in Paris, and the performance is unbelievable. I’ll never go back to dial up Internet access. Use my new e-mail address now – anthony@anthonylewis.com.

I also decided to stop selling computers. I’m going to try to dedicate more of my spare time to studying programming and Unix. If you were planning on buying a computer from me, I’m sorry I won’t be able to help you now. I can still help you with prices and features.

Good Friday

This was the worst “Good Friday” I’ve ever had. I drove 100 miles to take two of my Microsoft Certification tests and when I got there the testing center was closed. I was in a hurry to leave town so we didn’t stop to get cash. We realized that we forgot the ATM card when we got to Dallas. To top it all off I got a speeding ticket for doing 59 in a 40. What a day…

Software news

My redesign is just about finished. Let me know what you think about it.

There’s also some interesting news to add today. According to Blizzard, Diablo II will not be released until the first part of next year. What will I ask Santa for now?

The good news is Samba 2.0.6 was released yesterday. This new release fixes many bugs and adds a few new features. This is great news for anyone integrating Unix and Windows computers.

Hopefully I’ll have some really interesting news to post Monday…

Redesign

Here I go again, redesigning my web site. You’ll have to excuse the lack of graphics in some places. Maybe it’ll be done in the morning…

New truck

Wow, so much has happened since the last time I updated. I don’t really even know where to start…

I got a new truck, it’s a Toyota Tacoma. I’m really enjoying it. It’s a Jade Green 4×4. I’m sure I’ll never even take it off the road, but it is nice to know that I could if I wanted to.

We held our first Linux User Group meeting, the two of us who attended had a good time and learned quite a bit. I’m planning on holding another meeting on November 13. Hopefully we’ll at least double our attendance. I should also thank the good folks at Red Hat for sending me a box of stuff to give away at the next meeting.

And, I’ve been really working hard on Linux programming using GTK+. I seems a lot easier than Windows programming, but it could just be because I’ve already learned Windows programming. I’ll put up some screen-shots and code over on my Linux page as soon as I have something interesting to show.

New look

I decided to change my look a bit tonight. I found this cool font and just had to use it. The new look isn’t quite finished yet, but I thought it was close enough for now.

I’ll finish the update this weekend. E-mail me and let me know what you think.

Paris LUG

I’m starting a Linux User Group for people in the Paris area. Get all of the details at The Paris Area LUG Homepage.

Be sure to attend our first meeting on Saturday, October 9 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Paris ISD Administration Building, 1920 Clarksville St. Paris, TX. Please e-mail me if you have any more questions or if you’re interested in attending.

Home network

I got my old computer up and running last weekend. I spent my evenings getting it networked to my new computer and configuring IP Masquerading. I’m going to set up DNS and proxy caching this weekend to try and speed up my Internet access.

I also got my free copy of Solaris 7 in the mail today. Actually it cost me about $16 with shipping. Head over to Sun’s Developer Connection web site to get your copy. I can’t wait to check it out. It looks like I’ll have to find another computer to play with…
